COOLTURE™ is an interactive program focused on exposing youth to culture through various disciplines in the arts - Costume Design, Music Production and Food & Drink.
In the Summer of 2023, our inaugural class of 25 COOLTURE[RS] will embark on an immersive experience in culture by participating in our Costume Design workshop guided by leading Carnival costume designers. The workshop will take the participants from theme to mas, creating real life costumes, while learning more about Carnival history and the real story behind “mas”.
In 2023, our COOLTURE™ theme is Folklore.
The workshop will focus on highlighting the relevance of the folklore characters in the history of Carnival. Our COOLTURE[RS] will learn more about the Blue Devil, Dame Lorraine, Jab Jab, Moko Jumbie and the Pierrot Grenade and their significance in the Carnival culture and relevance to the islands across the Caribbean region.
Our COOLTURE[RS] will have the opportunity to create their very own Pierrot Grenade which will serve as their “cap & gown” on graduation day.
What is Carnival without the Carnival parade? Our COOLTURE[RS] will have a unique opportunity to experience a true taste of culture during the annual Junior Carnival parade, which will serve as their graduation day.
